Stress seems to plague our society, myself included. Everyone has their cures, whether it’s yoga or a manicure, a long walk or a good book, tea with honey or seeing a movie, the list goes on…there’s something different for everyone. However, one technique that everyone can benefit from when time is short is simply breathing. It’s ironic that something we do subconsciously can calm us down more effectively than anything else, but it is the best way to de-stress yourself quickly!
Here are the Daily Well‘s tips on this:
When you take shallow breaths, which often come along with stress, you send your nervous system into a fight or flight mode—and who wants that? Try this simple breath exercise to de-stress and refresh during any time of day.
- Close your eyes. Focus on your breath as you inhale and exhale normally.
- Inhale, then expand the belly, the ribs and then the chest.
- Exhale, releasing the breath from the chest, the ribs and last, the belly.
- Allow your breath to roll in and out smoothly, creating one motion.
First, try five breaths, then work your way up to 10 or 20.
