Our skin is our largest organ, as well as the most visible, so it’s a great way to detox through our skin. One technique  is via the process of dry skin brushing. If you’re getting sick of the latest skin treatments, lotions, lasers, and potions, perhaps this natural and simple technique is something to try.

So what is dry skin brushing? According to The Daily Well, it is a way to get brighter, tighter, healthier skin by using a method that simulates the skin using a handheld, stiff-bristled brush or mitt to improve circulation and the general appearance of the skin.

Here’s what The Daily Well had to say about it:

What is it? It’s a self-care technique that, aside from being one of the best ways to brighten and detoxify the skin while diminishing the appearance of cellulite, it’s also cost effective and relaxing.

and the benefits don’t stop at the skin…

  • Strengthens the Immune System/Eliminates Toxins
  • Stimulates Blood Flow/Improves Circulation
  • Stimulates Lymphatic Flow
  • Stimulates the Hormone and Oil Glands
  • Exercises the Skin
  • Exfoliates the Skin and Encourages New Cell Growth
  • Helps Digestion
  • Tones the Muscles

How does it do it? The bristles of the brush work to stimulate below the surface of the skin to get the blood flowing and the lymphatic system pumping, promoting circulation and breaking down fat pockets.

How to try it? With the brush or mitt of your choice, start at your feet and make upward long sweeping movements along your legs, thighs, butt, abdomen, arms, shoulders, chest and back—make sure to go towards the heart. The whole process takes two to three minutes. Do it daily before showering for the best results
